Dr. Joe is a lot like you…practical and approachable. He considers himself to be an “average Joe,” but his education and training are not. His doctorate in ministry is helpful in teaching the truth, but his practical application comes from years as a pastor and teacher.
A native of Atlanta, he calls Georgia “home.” He has lived in Cairo, Georgia since December 2003, and understands the hopes and needs of the people like you who live here. His desire is to encourage his flock at First Baptist to study God’s Word and grow in their faith in order to reach the Cairo community for Christ. He’s “here just for you.”

Dr. Joe was born in Atlanta, Georgia and reared in Decatur, where he was ordained to the ministry in 1979. He holds degrees from Florida Bible College, Dallas Baptist University, Dallas Theological Seminary, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His previous pastorates include: Grace Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Kentucky, East Newnan Baptist Church in Newnan, Georgia, Norcross First Baptist Church In Norcross, Georgia, and Crosspointe Church in Cumming, Georgia. While attending seminary, Dr. Joe held multiple positions at Dallas First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas and later was the Executive Assistant to the President at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

Dr. Joe is married to the former Lindsey Claire Olson, a committed wife with the lifelong goal of being a loving helpmate, a good mother and a pastor’s wife. They have a daughter, Bethany, who is currently pursuing a law degree from Stetson University. Their son, Joe Allen, III, is a student at Dallas Theological Seminary. His wife is the former Christina Lynn Tebow, the daughter of missionaries and graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary. Upon their graduation, they plan to live and work as missionaries.

Dr. Joe and Lindsey set an example for members of First Baptist Church and the Grady County Baptist Association by sponsoring and serving on mission trips. Each year, they serve as missionaries to the Philippines with the Bob Tebow Evangelistic Association. They have also ministered to people living in hurricane-ravaged areas in the Mississippi and Louisiana. Lindsey also teaches ladies in Discipleship Training and serves as a small group leader in our Student Ministry.
